Snow shoes ease movement in the snow and were also commonly used in the past in many rural, snow-rich areas. The advantage of snow shoes is the larger surface area, which better distributes a persons´ weight and thus minimises sinking into the snow. In order to snow shoe one does not need previous knowledge nor a specific technique, if you can run you can also snow shoe.
Modern Use
Nowadays, snow shoes are seen by many as sports equipment and outdoor-friends have discovered it as an attractive alternative to classical ski touring. Many Alpine peaks, which can be climbed on a ski tour, can also be reached with snow-shoes without any problems.
Many groups, families and even managers enjoy the exercise of this outdoor sport; one can reduce stress and relax from monotonous everyday life.

Competition Rules
The snow shoe race will take place on a 3 km stretch in Kirchbergs beautiful winter landscape. After a mass start the athlete’s task is to reach the finish in the shortest time possible. During the race is it not allowed to make short-cuts or prevent fellow competitors from advancing.
